Police have discounted a sighting of a girl in The Warehouse in Dunedin more than two years ago as missing British girl Madeleine McCann. The apparent sighting by retail assistant Taryn Dryfhout, and by a security guard, in December 2007 sparked international interest. Madeleine was four-years-old when she disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in July 2007 while her parents dined at a nearby restaurant. CCTV footage showed a girl being led into a supermarket by a man in shorts, while another photo in Britain's Daily Mail showed a young girl in The Warehouse accompanied by a man in shorts and an older boy. Police have identified the girl and her family, and she is not the missing British girl, acting Southern District commander Inspector Dave Campbell said tonight. Police would not name the family or give any further details about them, and asked for the image to be removed from the media. "New Zealand police are mindful of the stress on the McCann family from possible sightings of their daughter worldwide," he said. Ms Dryfhout was working as a checkout operator when she saw a girl with blue eyes, blonde hair and a tiny frame enter the shop in December 2007. "I was quite stricken by the wee girl who looked just like Madeleine McCann," she told One News. She was quite apprehensive to talk to me and sort of stammered over her words when she was trying to think of her name." The man and woman with the child were described as
"a little bit suspicious".

I really dont think that anyone will be seen out with Madeleine. The most hunted missing girl of all time with such worldwide press coverage - who would take her out shopping or anywhere in public, for goodness sake!?

She obviously must be hidden very well

I dont think that the Portuguese police would not have investigated some of the old sightings, that have just recently started appearing in the press - if they were not relevant at all, why would they waste time researching them.
It seems the UK press want to continue to give the Portuguese a hard time, like someone has to take the blame.

The NZ police probably had already discounted the recently exposed sighting in NZ & traced the people on the CCTV a long time ago, as it would have been there job to do so at the time.
And the press probably already knew the outcome. It could be that these are being used to keep Madeleine highlighted to the public, which is fair enough & I understand the McCann's concern, but it seems as soon as we read of a sighting, it is always quickly dismissed.

The case should be re-opened, PDL & close surroundings physically searched, find out why every McCann investigation team were dodgy & if there are any dodgy cops, priests, MPs etc.

I dont think keep blaming Amaral is doing any good to try to find Madeleine. He apparently is keeping track of how many times he has been personally insulted by the UK press, him listing key abusive words. So at some point he will find the right time for libel cases.

On one of my previous posts some time ago, I had written why hasnt Murat done something about the Tapas 3 absolutely stating that the abductor was Murat, if he is innocent, as well as going to the Press Complaints Commission re the press stories on him.
Anyone know how Murat is getting on with his libel against some of the Tapas group?

I've personally had enough of the UK press stories on Madeleine & those involved.

I've tried searching on an update on Robert Green since he was arrested a few weeks back - does anyone know if there is anything more recent out there & how far forward this is going?
I'm still very upset about the Hollie story & did immediately put out something to the Parliament, European Commission, Court of Justice, Human Rights in this country (some being the head of Europe), as I know many people there & I am looking at the buildings. I bump into some of the higher-ranked people of these places in bars & restaurants etc, so there’s a bit of chat going on re the Hollie story.
Some people dont want to touch it, saying that there is no proof that it is a true story, to be able to forward the story on.

Hi Z , just a quick one to answer about Hollie.  Robert Green was released and all is well.  Sadly Hollies much loved Dog died yesterday.  However, the actual campaign is going well in sense that some big newspapers outside UK are picking up on the story. Hollie has also started doing some radio interviews.  They are very grateful for all the support they are have been getting since Roberts video went out. 

They have set up a facebook page which keeps being taken down!, they have had thousands of hits of the original talk by Robert Green.   The blip TV clip has been removed but you can still find it on Youtube.

Regarding why people won't touch it - because they are not sure its true or not....  This is  a very weak reason don't you think?  i mean none of the accused were ever even interviewed by the police back in 2001.   Wny would hollie and eveyone be supporting her if they believed she could make something like this up.

LONDON. Maddie McCann's disappearance is being investigated again.

Now experienced police kidnapping investigators are to take up the case again.

It is the police team that managed to find the kidnapped girl, Shannon Matthews, 9, after she disappeared in February 2008, which will now go through the investigation of Maddie McCann's disappearance again.

Police files will be examined

The team from the police in West Yorkshire, HMET, is to review the Portuguese police files.

The decision has been taken after Maddie's parents had a meeting with the British Home Secretary Alan Johnson in which they asked him to take up the case again.

- "It's hoped we can clear the decks and start over again," says a source, according to the Daily Star.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal in May 2007.

Mark Williams-Thomas (former police detective & now leading criminologist & child protection expert), has some concerns about showing a photo of Madeleine with make-up on, after ‘her’ apparently raiding the make-up dressing box (as the press say), when it was probably an adult that done it so neatly for her, and with the weirdo peodofile websites out there with children with make-up on, Mark Williams-Thomas has considered it as ‘so inappropriate’ and ‘so damaging’ to release to the public.

I thought that particular photo she looked older, even imagining her without the make-up.
